The Brant Skating Club was
formed in 1947 and provides skating
opportunities for all levels, from the smallest Preschoolers to
Competitive athletes.
A dedicated team of NCCP Certified, Skate Canada Coaches provides
instruction in all levels and disciplines of skating: Preschool,
CanSkate, Pre-preliminary, Intermediate and Senior as well as
Synchronized skating teams. Learning the basic skating techniques,
whether for pleasure skating or developing future hockey players,
begins with small group lessons. As a skater progresses in group
lessons, there is opportunity to develop their skating under the
individual guidance of a Professional coach and enter the Skate Canada
StarSkate Program. Here, they learn Skills, Dance and Freeskate and may
try Skate Canada tests and perform at Interclub and Invitational
Competitions.
A volunteer Board of Directors manages the Club, with assistance from
the Professional coaches, under the jurisdiction of the Western Ontario
Section of Skate Canada.
Each year, the Club produces
an ice show, Flashing Blades, with all
skaters having an opportunity to participate. This show is made
possible by the contribution of volunteer parents, Professional coaches
and the skaters themselves.
Throughout the season there are many other events held for the skaters:
Skate Canada test days, Club Competition, a Christmas Family Skate and
an end of the season banquet and awards ceremony. The Skater
Development Committee provides seminars, off ice instruction, and other
special events throughout the season and runs the “Second Chance
Boutique” which sells new and gently worn skating apparel and a variety
of skating merchandise.
